Social Network Analysis as a Tool to Asses Nicaragua's Labor Markets: A Conversation with LINC (English)
To elicit bottom-up learning initiatives from US- and field-based implementers and practitioners in the workforce development arena, FHI 360’s USAID-funded Workforce Connections project is awarding a series of competitive learning grants related to systems thinking and soft skills. We are pleased to announce that LINC (www.linclocal.org), an innovator in local systems strengthening, has been awarded the first of these grants.
LINC’s Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) tool incorporates systems thinking into workforce development programming and labor market assessments. Their ONA approach to partner mapping and stakeholder analysis, which measures social capital and degrees of system actor interaction, can add important value to labor market assessment activities, enabling program designers to more accurately identify systems-level constraints and visually map priority pathways for assistance. With Workforce Connections learning grant support, LINC will apply the ONA tool in three networks in Nicaragua via a participatory process; public sharing of results is expected to elicit learning opportunities that directly contribute to USAID and other local stakeholders’ ongoing labor market assessment activities and program design efforts there.
